Welcome to the Association of Atlantic Universities Teaching Showcase 2009What Works: Empowering Students for the 21st CenturySaturday October 24, 2009
Graduates in the 21st
Century face a world of increased complexity, uncertainty, and global
interdependence. This world needs independent thinkers and creative
problem-solvers. Universities’ roles have changed, too. In addition to
providing the content knowledge our students require to succeed,
universities must empower students to take control of their own learning
in order to become the century’s future leaders. Our keynote speaker is
Jeanne L. Narum, an internationally recognized advocate for
undergraduate education and Director of Project Kaleidoscope, an
alliance responsible for shaping undergraduate learning environments in
science and technology. Project Kaleidoscope embraces the ‘what works’
philosophy, arguing that there is no need to reinvent the wheel; instead
we should share best practices. It is in that spirit of sharing what is
already working that we invite you to participate in this year’s AAU Teaching Showcase,
What Works: Empowering Students for the 21st Century.
